Artichoke Dance Company, in collaboration with participants of the eco-arts training program, Artichoke Ambassadors, will host a day of performances, installations, and interactive workshops. 12:00PM-3:00PM - Participatory Mapping :"Countercurrents" with Estefania Mompean Botias
Estefania Mompean Botias, an architect, urban designer, and researcher, presents "Countercurrents," exploring the dynamic interplay between emergency architecture and the complex realities of flooding responses in New York City, challenging conventional thinking and envisioning collective counter-alternatives.
12:00PM-4:00PM - Visual Art Works: “beautiful little fool” by Angela Koh and “mutated plant permutations “ by Eleanor Moore, and video Trees Are Nature by Amazon Theatrix
Angela Koh is a multidisciplinary artist in mediums of creative direction, dance, poetry, fashion styling, and visual arts. Her exhibit, beautiful little fool, addresses invasive species and explores tensions of spirituality, beauty, belonging, and violence.
Eleanor Moore is a multi-inter-cross disciplinary artists focused on sound and vision. Her work mutated plant permutations is a sculpture and fiber arts installation, inspired by plant retardant chemicals, mutations, and the future of our habitat on earth, constructed entirely of donated and recycled materials.
Amazon Theatrix is a group of young people from the Luo community in Kisumu, Kenya, who use theatre and community outreach for education and sensitization. A video of the performance Trees are Nature will be shown.
1:00PM -4:00PM- Opening Ceremony/Installation : "love letter to a tree" with Catalina Cavelight
Catalina Cavelight is a mixed media artist who works closely with trees. Catalina will be offering a tree prayer at 1pm followed by a participatory installation creating weavings around trees to bring awareness to trees as healing members in our human and non-human communities.
1:15-1:45PM - Movement Workshop with Joanne Ramirez
In this movement workshop, we will tune into the science behind movement and the influence it has on wellbeing, learning techniques that deepen your connection to yourself and others.
2:00-2:30PM - Dance Performance: "Water Rises" by Artichoke Dance Company
Artichoke Dance Company, a national leading eco-arts organization specializing in performance, education and action, will present excerpts from Water Rises, a dance reflecting on sea level rise in the face of climate change.
2:30-3:15PM - Music Performance by Marieke de Koker
Marieke de Koker and Ongama Mhlontlo will present a performance of original poetry and music centered around environmental justice and healing, shaped by their perspectives as South African artists and activists.
3:15-3:30PM - Dance Performance by Madelyn Sher
Madelyn Sher is a performer and choreographer who is interested in the rhythms of growth and decay. This piece is an improvisational dance solo that weaves a practice of patience with a spontaneous response to site, sound, and memory.
3:30-3:45PM - Dance Performance: "The Forests' Embryo" by Christopher Bisram
Christopher Bisram is a multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus in dance. Chris will be offering a dance with the trees, to speak for them to create an awareness of the bond between nature and human beings.
